Epworth Centre for Bariatric Surgery was established in 1998. It contributed significantly to the development of weight loss surgery in Australia. For the past 20 years, we have committed to providing safe, reliable and effective surgical management for our obesity patients.

    Mr Harry Frydenberg AM M.B.B.S., F.R.A.C.S. Laparoscopic, Bariatric Surgeon and Endoscopist

    Dr. Harry Frydenberg AM, Surgeon, Director of the Epworth Centre for Bariatric Surgery in Melbourne, Australia, is a highly experienced general surgeon who has been involved in Bariatric (Obesity) Surgery in Australia for more than 30 years. He performs a wide range of Bariatric Surgical procedures including Gastric Banding, Roux-en-Y and One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass and Sleeve Gastrectomy.

    Mr Ernest Kah-Seong Lim M.B.B.S., F.R.A.C.S. Laparoscopic and General Surgeon

    Mr Ernest Lim offers specialist surgical skills in Weight Loss Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, General Surgery and Endoscopy (Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy). He gained his General Surgery Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2001. He then completed further training in Canterbury, England in Endocrine Surgery and in Hull, East Yorkshire, England in Laparoscopic / Bariatric Surgery and was a clinical lecturer (Surgery) at Hull Royal Infirmary.

Am I a Candidate for Weight Loss Surgery?
You may be an ideal candidate for weight loss surgery if your:
  • BMI is 35 or higher
  • Attempts to lose weight over a prolonged period of time did not yield any significant results
  • Body is experiencing obesity-related conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure etc.
  • A lower BMI between 30-35 may be accepted for patients with severe type 2 diabetes.
